For Immediate Release:
Doxis Joins CENSA in Developing Science's Newest Tools - Collaborative Electronic Notebook Systems
--CENSA developing fully-functional, electronic equivalent to outdated paper notebook systems--
--Electronic notebooks to feature legal defensibility, regulatory compliance, ease-of-use, and portability--
Medford, MA, July 28, 1998--Rich Lysakowski, Ph.D., Executive Director of CENSA (the Collaborative Electronic Notebook Systems Association), Medford, MA announced, today, that Doxis, Norwood, MA has joined the international scientific association as a key Supplier Member.
CENSA is an international scientific and high technology trade association that includes worldwide research and development organizations in the life sciences, chemical sciences, healthcare, high technology, and related industries. The market development programs run by CENSA are developing science's newest and most productive research tools for laboratory, office, and field work--Collaborative Electronic Notebook Systems.
Doxis, Norwood, MA is a pioneer and leader in the development of mobile computer-based forms management software systems. Doxis developed and markets Forms Without Paper --the first wireless electronic "clipboard" that allows mobile laboratory and process control workers to input critical, real-time process and analytical data-directly and interactively-into hand-held, portable computers or into local and wide area networks.
"As a CENSA Supplier Member, Doxis will play an important role in our efforts to jointly develop some of science's newest and most productive collaborative electronic research tools." said Rich Lysakowski, Executive Director of CENSA. "These tools will greatly facilitate research among the world's scientists. They'll also speed the sharing, reuse, and archiving of critical and proprietary research data, and accelerate laboratory and R&D projects."
Lewis Bell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Doxis, said, "There's a great deal of interest in the pharmaceutical community regarding electronic notebooks and the use of electronic signatures and records. The FDA has issued its Rule on electronic recordkeeping and those guidelines admit many possibilities. In this context, Doxis welcomes the opportunity to participate in that conversion with other CENS Consortium Members. We anticipate applying what we learn as a CENSA Member to the further development of our own market offering, and to increase its value to our customers."
"At CENSA, our goal is to create the complete, functional, electronic equivalent of paper recordkeeping systems including legal defensibility, regulatory compliance, ease of use, convenience, portability, and more." said Dr. Lysakowski.
"This is harder than it seems because of legal implications needed to prove the veracity of records for many decades to come. However, there are no technical reasons why electronic systems cannot keep records fully accessible and online for many decades-they just haven't been designed that way yet."
According to Meryl Mecca, Doxis Vice president, "Forms Without Paper provides a vehicle for the collection of unstructured handwritten forms and data by mobile workers, leading to the creation of a secure electronic record residing in its own secure document database. It controls forms as valuable corporate assets throughout their life cycles, while providing the option of making data available to corporate databases. It proactively enforces compliance with SOP's, while eliminating costly transcription errors. It's a good option for laboratories and manufacturing facilities, and is especially useful in clean room environments. Forms Without Paper is a direct replacement for paper forms systems with a lot of value added--no reengineering is required."
"In addition to becoming an active member in a global industry association, CENSA Supplier Members get many benefits," said Lysakowski, "Including gaining priority access to our End User members and their development and pilot projects; receiving detailed benchmark study reports and specifications that exceed US FDA, EPA, PTO and other regulatory agency compliance requirements; system and other knowledge deliverables. In addition, Supplier Members can sponsor specifications for adoption; receive and respond to CENSA RFPs; and participate in our certification and Quality Branding Programs."
