Deemed critical by scientists worldwideand seen as digital replacements to today's ubiquitous but obsolete paper recordbooksCollaborative Electronic Notebook Systems facilitate research among the world's scientists; speed the capture, use, transfer, and archiving of critical and proprietary research data and records; and accelerate laboratory and R&D projects. These benefits are critical to scientists and corporations involved in biology, chemistry, materials, or high-tech R & D.
"CENSAs goal is to create and drive the markets for the complete, functional, electronic equivalent of paper recordkeeping systems including legal defensibility, regulatory compliance, ease of use, convenience, portability, and more," said Dr. Lysakowski. "Documentum and the other CENSA supplier members are following CENSA's lead in the specification process for storage and migration of authenticated electronic records. We welcome Documentum in moving the industry forward with the other CENSA members, and we look forward to working together to build upon EDMS 98s electronic document management capabilities to offer a fully electronic recordkeeping and digital archiving system."
Larry Warnock, vice president of corporate marketing for Documentum, said, "We are pleased to join CENSA particularly as the majority of CENSA Members already rely on our document management software today. Through our collaboration with CENSA, we will deliver instant electronic document access and availability as part of the base platform for recordkeeping services, to facilitate improved scientific decision-making and streamlined processes in the R&D community."
Andrew Grygiel, director of marketing, process manufacturing, for Documentum added, "CENSA members are collaborating to gain major productivity benefits in research and development, and Documentum brings domain industry expertise and experience in knowledge management applications to the table. By delivering instant access to business-critical documents, EDMS 98 dramatically improves operational efficiency, time-to-market and regulatory compliance standards."
R&D requires managing the entire document lifecycle, including creation, review, approval and release, while maintaining security. In addition, Collaborative Electronic Notebook Systems requires an enterprise base platform that can handle any document type such as HTML pages, scanned paper documents, images, office documents such as spreadsheets, video or sound clips. Documentum provides technologies to capture and reuse information from any source, including research data that is commonly found in electronic notebooks.
CENSA Supplier Members, such as Documentum, gain many benefits, including priority access to end user members and their development projects; extensive knowledge deliverables such as specifications, Requests For Proposals (RFPs), and research reports and much more. CENSA is working closely with Supplier Members to build mission-critical R&D team computing systems with complete collaborative electronic lab notebooks, that includes components for chemistry, biology, and engineering applications.
From now through 2000, CENSA End User and Supplier Members will release a series of detailed specifications, RFPs, and software for systems, integration frameworks, applications, and components for technical applications. These deliverables are being designed to meet the requirements of automation managers, regulatory affairs, R&D managers, scientists and engineers, patent attorneys, records managers, and quality assurance managers. These professionals will benefit greatly from integrated systems for intelligent project data and document handling, formal recordkeeping and archiving, collaboration, and knowledge management.
