CENSA Announces GlaxoWellcome, Inc. as Newest Member to Develop Electronic Notebook Systems
--GlaxoWellcome joins Procter & Gamble, Pfizer, Purdue Pharma, others, to develop science's newest tools--
Medford, MA June 10, 1998--Rich Lysakowski, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Collaborative Electronic Notebook Systems Association (CENSA), Medford, MA announced, today, that
GlaxoWellcome, Inc., Research Triangle Park, NC is the latest, major research organization to join CENSA in a joint effort to develop science's newest and most productive research tools for laboratory, office and field work-collaborative electronic notebook systems.
Deemed critical by world scientists, and seen as "cyberlink" replacements to today's obsolete paper notebooks-collaborative electronic notebook systems facilitate research among the world's scientists; speed the capture, use, transfer, and archiving of critical and proprietary research data and records; and accelerate laboratory and R&D projects. These benefits are critical to scientists and corporations involved in biology, chemistry, materials, or high-tech R & D. The results apply anywhere large amounts of data must be captured as records and protected for long periods of time.
GlaxoWellcome, Inc., based in Research Triangle Park, NC, is a subsidiary of London-based GlaxoWellcome plc. The nation's leading research-based pharmaceutical company, GlaxoWellcome Inc. is committed to fighting disease by bringing innovative medicines and services to patients and to the healthcare professionals who serve them.
CENSA is an international market development association focused on driving the state of the art for electronic recordkeeping systems and collaborative technologies wherever they are used. Through market development programs, CENSA hosts major initiatives in automation and information technology that bring together committed end users and suppliers to catalyze emergence and expansion of new markets.
CENSA is an international group of companies in the high technology, chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, food, beverage, consumer goods, and other industries working together to solve major automation problems by creating products and systems that change the nature of science and innovation into the 21st Century.
GlaxoWellcome, Inc. joins other CENSA Members including Procter & Gamble Company, Pfizer Inc., Purdue Pharma L.P., along with Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, Dow Chemical Company, G.D. Searle & Co. (a subsidiary of Monsanto Company) and other major corporations-working together-to deliver specifications and software solutions that flexibly address their key business, legal, regulatory and technical requirements for integrated systems for collaborative computing, project data management and electronic recordkeeping.
According to Tom Pepin, Records Manager at Pfizer's Groton Central Research Facility, "Notebooks chronicle our discovery and development process-they are our lifeblood. CENSA's efforts will significantly reduce the time expended by our support staff to find and integrate tools for the development of our collaborative electronic notebook system".
Tom Lillie, Quality Assurance Manager for the Dishcare, Laundry & Cleaning Products Division of Procter & Gamble Company, said, "CENSA is giving us a well thought-out path to the future. This collaborative effort will help us align our systems and processes across business sectors. It will help us drive our technology foundation and processes, and drive product development forward."
"The driving reason that major companies join CENSA is to gain major productivity benefits in research and development," said Lysakowski. "The resulting CENSA products will enable scientists to focus on their primary missions and goals; increase productivity by eliminating countless hours of recordkeeping tasks; and give them tools to collaborate and manage data and knowledge far better than now. This can lead to operational excellence, faster time-to-market for their products, and ultimately will improve the bottom-line."
