Tripos, Inc. Joins CENSA as a New Supporting Supplier Member

Medford, Mass., and ST. LOUIS - May 22, 2003 - CENSA, the Collaborative Electronic Notebook Systems Association, a global market development association, and Tripos, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRPS), a leading provider of drug discovery informatics products and chemistry research, today announced Tripos' initiation into CENSA as a Supporting Supplier Member.

"We are truly delighted to have Tripos as a Supporting Supplier Member," said Dr. Richard Lysakowski, executive director of CENSA. "Supporting Supplier Members work with End User Members to ensure that technologies and methodologies are developed to meet real needs in scientific discovery, product development and collaboration. Tripos has a long history developing tools for the pharmaceutical industry, and its experience will help to enhance CENSA's Collaborative Electronic Research and Development (CeR&D) Program. More importantly, working with key CENSA members like Tripos in a cooperative manner will more collaboratively accelerate software quality and progress for leading-edge chemists, biologists, materials engineers, and others in scientific discovery and product development."

CENSA hosts four meetings each year where organization members and industry leaders get together to tackle the most current and widespread issues related to electronic notebooks. Tripos will attend its first CENSA meeting in June 2003.

"CENSA and Tripos are both dedicated to accelerating progress in the electronic notebooks and collaborative eR&D solutions," said Dr. John P. McAlister, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Tripos. "This relationship is important to us because it provides yet another point of contact with end users to ensure our tools are designed to solve the real problems facing researchers. New ideas obtained through CENSA will be particularly helpful as we enhance our Electronic Lab Journal and other offerings. We look forward to being an active member of CENSA."
